Question: I need to replace the front shocks and the 4 arms since they are worn out. I’m looking for a better than OEM product so I can get better suspension and handling. Maybe also leveling the front with the rear… I’m no expert at it… What do you recommend that would give good performance, way better than factory? I was looking at bilstein products they seem to be the better, you tell me. Thanks for all the info you can provide me with.

Answer: You definitely want the Bilstein 5100 series. These are high pressure monotube shocks that will give you much better performance than the stock shocks, plus they have an adjustable spring perch for up to 2.5 inches of leveling in the front. The rear will also work with up to an inch of added lift in the back. You can see those here:
Question:

hi i have a 2007 mazdaspeed3 and would like to replace the stock struts.i have read so many thing on the mazdaspeed3 forum about which struts to buy it has left me a little confuse. am interested in the bilsteins but don’t know which is better the HD or the Sports for my car.I want a direct replacement meaning that you don’t have to modify anything but something that is better then stock and will work with my stock springs.can you help? thanks.

Answer:

The Bilstein Heavy Duty and Sport will both work with your Mazdaspeed 3 without any modifications. The Heavy Duty is a good performance shock that strikes a compromise between sportiness and comfort on the street while the Bilstein Sport is an all out performance shock. Both will be a great improvement over your stock shocks, it just comes down to how much stiffness you are looking for. You can see those here:

Question: What shocks will work with a small lowering kit?

Answer:
There are two great options for your Mustang with a small amount of lowering.

The KYB AGX can be adjusted to exactly the level of performance that you want:

The Bilstein Heavy Duty is a high performance monotube shock that will give you good performance with a ride that won’t beat you up as much as a full race shock.

Question:
I have a 2003 Ford E-250 3/4 ton van loaded with machines key blanks all kinds of inventory and tools. I do not know the weight of my van and I am not sure if you need shocks specific for my application. I just don’t want to replace something a couple years down the road when I could have spent a few dollars more and did it right the first time.

Answer:
You can get good heavy duty shocks for cheap, but if you want something that will last under heavy loads, it’s worth the extra money to buy premium shocks. For your van, we recommend Bilstein Heavy Duty shocks, which should last you a long time even under heavy workloads. The Monroe Gas Magnum is also a good choice if you want to save some money. If you have problems with the van sagging, look into an air suspension add on kit.

You can see all of the parts available for your van here:

Question: I have a 2008 Dodge Ram 4×4 1500, and I am looking for a more controlled highway ride (less bounce) which I would think any uprated shock would give but the main issue I have is skipping around when driving on rutted forest roads, especially from the rear end when not loaded driving over ‘washboard’ sections of gravel roads.

Thanks very much

Answer: If your truck has the same height suspension, you can use the regular Ram shocks. I would recommend the Bilstein Heavy Duty or the Rancho RS9000 Adjustable shocks, both of which will be an upgrade over your factory units and will ensure that your ride quality isn’t hurt by putting a lesser shock on than the truck came from the factory with. You can see those here:
What is your driving style: Hard Performance Driver

Question: I am looking for the best performance shocks for my 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser Turbo. I drive my 03 PT Cruiser Turbo hard but also use it as a daily driver, so I’m not looking for a lowering kit right now, but do want the best performance I can get.

Answer: If you drive your PT Cruiser aggressively, you have two great choices in the Bilstein Heavy Duty and Bilstein Sport shocks. The Heavy Duty will be a good daily driver shock and give you much better control and handling than stock while still maintaining a normal comfort level. The Sport is more of an all-out performance shock which will give you the best handling possible and is what Bilstein recommends either with stock shocks or to be used with sport springs if you plan to go that route in the future.
If you’re looking for a good shock that will give you a ride similar to the factory one, I would recommend the KYB Gasajust/ GR2 combination or the Bilstein Light Duty (the Bilsteins are more expensive, but better built, so if you’re planning to keep the car forever, I would recommend those. If you’re looking to improve your handling, there are also Bilstein Heavy Duty (moderate upgrade) and Sport (high performance) shocks.

Question: Does the Z71 suspension require a special shock ?

Answer: The Z71 suspension uses high pressure monotube shocks from the factory, so we recommend replacing those with similar units so that your truck’s handling isn’t adversely affected by swapping out the shocks. We have a few great choices, all of which will perform as well or better than the factory shocks.
The KYB Monomax, Monroe Reflex Monotube and Bilstein Heavy Duty are all good choices for your Z71.

Suspension Type: Regular Shocks or Struts

Additional Comments: I have a crew cab 2500HD 6.6L diesel
I would like the truck to handle better yet be able to tow a full load with trailer and snowplow. Also if you could suggest some adjustable performance shock as well. Thank you

Answer: For the load(s) I would recommend using Air Lift products 52212 Airlift Air Spring for 2002 Chevy Silverado 2500 for the front, and 52202 Airlift Air Spring for 2002 Chevy Silverado for the rear. These will allow you to keep the truck at the appropriate height whilst either towing a trailer in the rear, or using a snow plow up front.

The shocks I would recommend are the Bilstein Heavy Duty shocks, but if you’re looking for an adjustable shocks you can go with the Rancho RS9000X Series. Those shocks can be seen on our website by clicking on the link below.
