Answer: We have KYB Monomax shocks, which are high pressure monotube units that will handle offroad conditions much better than your stock units because they are much harder to overheat and are valved for more extreme use.

Model: 2003 Honda Odyssey
What is your driving style: Normal Driver
Vehicle Setup: Front Wheel Drive
Suspension Type: Regular Shocks or Struts

Question: Good morning, I need to replace the shocks and struts on my 2003 Honda Odyssey. The last time I did shocks and struts was on a Toyota Tundra. I went with a Bilstein monotube design. I couldn’t find a monotube design for the 2003 Honda Odyssey on your website (or anyone else’s for that matter). Can you tell me if I have the option to go with an upgraded shock/strut for this vehicle, and if no – would you recommend the KYB or Monroe? I see you carry both brands, but that they are the older twin tube design.

Answer: It looks like you’re right, I can’t find a monotube for the 2003 Odyssey. I would recommend the GR2 for you if you like the firmer, more controlled ride that the Bilsteins gave your truck. The KYB GR2s are typically valved stiffer than the OEM units or the Monroe Sensatracs, so you’ll get less body roll and a more controlled feel through bumps and corners.

Answer: For the 1988 190D we have shocks from KYB and Bilstein. You can see those here:

KYB GR2 1988 Mercedes-Benz 190D Rear Shocks

If you’re looking for a good shock that will give you a ride similar to the factory one, I would recommend the KYB Gasajust/ GR2 combination or the Bilstein Light Duty (the Bilsteins are more expensive, but better built, so if you’re planning to keep the car forever, I would recommend those. If you’re looking to improve your handling, there are also Bilstein Heavy Duty (moderate upgrade) and Sport (high performance) shocks.

Question: Does the Z71 suspension require a special shock ?

Answer: The Z71 suspension uses high pressure monotube shocks from the factory, so we recommend replacing those with similar units so that your truck’s handling isn’t adversely affected by swapping out the shocks. We have a few great choices, all of which will perform as well or better than the factory shocks.
The KYB Monomax, Monroe Reflex Monotube and Bilstein Heavy Duty are all good choices for your Z71.

Question: upgrade my suspension nice ride and price reasonable so what do you suggest that for my car. 1995 VW golf 4dr. 2.0 thank you.

Answer: If you’re looking for a comfortable ride in your 1995 VW Golf, the best choices for you are the KYB GR2 and Bilstein Touring Class shocks. Both of these are twin tube low pressure shock that are similar to the stock units, as opposed to a high pressure monotube that would be a performance upgrade. Both the KYB GR2 and Bilstein Touring Class are designed to give you a more controlled ride than the stock shocks.

Question: I’m looking for shocks for my 1998 Dodge Ram 2500 4×4 Regular Cab with the diesel engine. Some of the Rancho shocks are not suitable for a truck with snow-plow package- why is this? I have a Dodge Ram 2500 4×4 diesel with snow plow package..not lifted.

Answer: I spoke to Rancho’s technical department, and the reason that none of their parts are designed to fit with the snow plow package is that it came with stiffer springs, which the ranchos weren’t designed for. He did tell me that it isn’t a fitment issue, just a valving one, so I would recommend using a high pressure monotube shock that will be valved stiffer than the Rancho units to compensate for the extra spring rate.
You can see a few shocks that I would recommend here:

Question: I replaced my worn out shocks with some gas shocks from a local autoparts store. They are crap. I was told to try liquid (no gas) shocks. Can you recommend a brand.

Answer: There are basically no shocks sold today that aren’t gas pressurized, and if there are any available for your truck you really don’t want them. Shocks are gas pressurized so that when the shock moves up and down over and over, such as when riding on a rough road or even a twisty one, the hydraulic fluid doesn’t become over heated, which causes the shock to lose dampening power. There are huge differences in the quality of gas shocks though, and if you’re looking for something that will
give you great control over the truck, for towing, hauling, offroading or just daily driving, you should upgrade to a monotube shock. Monotube shocks resist fade even better than a traditional twin tube gas shock and are specifically valved for your application to provide the best ride and handling possible.

We have a few different monotube shocks available for your truck:

The KYB Monomax is available for truck that do not have a 137 or 156-inch
wheelbase:

Question: Planning to replace struts, shocks, axle dampner’s and all bushings, etc. Looking at putting KYB Gasajust (P/N KG9023) shocks on rear axle. What would be a good strut for the front that will give an equal balanced performance with the Gasajust shocks on the rear? I am looking for better performance than the KYB GR2 series replacement struts.

Answer: you have three good choices to pair with the Gasajust shocks you’re getting for the rear that will all give you great handling. We have high pressure monotube struts available from Bilstein and Edelbrock, which you can see
here:
3381 Edelbrock Performer IAS Front Strut 2001 Ford Mustang GT

And a manually adjustable twin-tube KYB AGX:

734014 KYB AGX Adjustable Front Strut 2001 Ford Mustang GT
The KYB is the least expensive, and is great for street cars because you can set the stiffness of the struts to your preference, but if you’re planning on doing extended periods of aggressive driving like track days for example, the monotube shocks may be a better choice for you, as they resist fade much better than a twin tube unit when heated up.

Answer: Is your Audio A6 a 1996 model or a 1997? Audi changed the A6 between those years, so if yours is a 1996 model, you will use those shocks. If it’s a 1997 model you will want to use these KYB GR2 shocks:

If you’re unsure which year Audi A6 yours is, you can see pictures of the two different generations here:
Question: My 1987 Suzuki Samurai has a tin top, not removable. I think it uses the same shocks as the soft top Samurai from 1986 – 1995, can you tell me for sure? What shocks are best for this truck?

Answer: The hard top Suzuki Samurai uses the same suspension and shocks as the soft top. Do you have any lift on your Samurai? If not, your best bet is going to be the KYB gasajust monotube shocks, which will give you the best control and handling possible on the samurai. You can see those here:
