hi i have a 2007 mazdaspeed3 and would like to replace the stock struts.i have read so many thing on the mazdaspeed3 forum about which struts to buy it has left me a little confuse. am interested in the bilsteins but don’t know which is better the HD or the  Sports for my car.I want a direct replacement meaning that you don’t have  to modify anything but something that is better then stock and will work  with my stock springs.can you help? thanks.

The Heavy Duty is a good performance shock that strikes a compromise between sportiness and comfort on the street while the Bilstein Sport is an all out performance shock. If you’re looking for a good shock that will give you a ride similar to the factory one, I would recommend the KYB Gasajust/ GR2 combination or the Bilstein Light Duty (the Bilsteins are more expensive, but better built, so if you’re planning to keep the car forever, I would recommend those. If you’re looking to improve your handling, there are also Bilstein Heavy Duty (moderate upgrade) and Sport (high performance) shocks.

Question: Does the Z71 suspension require a special shock ?

Answer: The Z71 suspension uses high pressure monotube shocks from the factory, so we recommend replacing those with similar units so that your truck’s handling isn’t adversely affected by swapping out the shocks. Question: Planning to replace struts, shocks, axle dampner’s and all bushings, etc. Looking at putting KYB Gasajust (P/N KG9023) shocks on rear axle. I am looking for better performance than the KYB GR2 series replacement struts.

The KYB is the least expensive, and is great for street cars because you can set the stiffness of the struts to your preference, but if you’re planning on doing extended periods of aggressive driving like track days for example, the monotube shocks may be a better choice for you, as they resist fade much better than a twin tube unit when heated up.

Answer: Coilovers are the absolute best thing you can do for the handling of your Porsche short of having the suspension completely rebuilt with race car parts.   Since we can’t ship you a team of engineers and fabricators, the BIlstein PSS9 coilover is your best choice. The Bilstein PSS9 coilover for the Porsche Boxster will lower the ride height, but the ride height is adjustable, so you can leave it high enough to drive on public roads on your way to the track, then lower it down for racing.  You can see that part here:

Question: 1970, f250, camper special. lookin for a “stiffer” ride. been running the gas magnums for a while, kinda sloppy. is the kyb gas-a-just the way to go?truck is restored and is stock height. concerned the monomax may be too much.

Answer: The KYB’s are a great choice for stiffening the ride of your truck. Monroes do tend to be a bit sloppier in the way that the valving is setup in comparison to the KYB’s. Monroe uses a twin-tube design, which is great for OEM replacements, but KYB uses a mono-tube design for more control, better heat dissipation, and longer life.
